Item #2648
Gibson L-0 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1939, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, black lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, spruce top, black tolex hard shell case.
A nice example of a 'late' L-0, the last version of the model. By this point the L-0 was the lowest guitar in Gibson's line (below the L-00, which was initially cheaper!) and differs only in having a black finish instead of Sunburst. And yes, the earliest L-00's were black as wellyou need a scorecard to keep track of the changes these models went through in the 1930's!
At any rate, this guitar has a single-bound top and back, triple bound soundhole edging, beautiful firestripe celluloid pickguard, and a white paint "Gibson" logo. This has a fast, comfortable round neck with a narrow "French" heel instead of the earlier heavy "V" shape, early branded Kluson tuners with white plastic buttons, and rosewood bridge with two pearl dots.
This is a great little guitar with a huge voice, excellent for finger- or flatpick styles.
Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.).
Overall very nice; looks all original except nut replaced long ago. Finish has small dings and scuffs but is intact except for some wear to lower soundhole ring and to the back of the neck. Plays fine, sounds excellent.
Comes with recent hardshell case. Excellent Condition.
