Item #7637
Gibson J-200 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1964), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst lacquer finish, maple body and neck, spruce top, Brazilian rosewood bridge and fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
Overall length is 42 1/4 in. (107.3 cm.), 17 in. (43.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 5/16 in. (643 mm.).
An excellent playing and sounding example of the 1960s iteration of Gibson's "King of the Flat-tops": the J-200. There is some light play wear overall, most notably a spot down through the finish on the top just above the pickguard. No major repairs; there is one small maple-pucker crack on the side just below the endpin, sealed but not touched up. In a very common modification, the original Tune-O-Matic bridge has been replaced with a correct style solid rosewood unit, and the guitar sounds much happier for it! The tuners are the correct gold-plated Kluson Deluxe but the 1970s version with the "Gibson" logo on the back, and a strap button has been added to the heel.
This is a great looking guitar with subtle but distinct flame to the maple back and sides, but really comes to life when played with a solid strum. While J-200s are very different animals from the higher-end Martin flat-tops, and so often get pooh-poohed by acoustic connoisseurs, they are great recording and rhythm guitars with a powerful but crisp sound unlike any other that really drives a track. Pete Townshend and George Harrison are only the most obvious examples, but many great records have been built around just this sound. Just play "Pinball Wizard" on this one, and see! Overall Excellent Condition.
