Gibson GA-20 Crest Previously Owned by Steely Dan's Walter Becker Model Tube Amplifier (1960), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 40272, tweed fabric covering finish.

Height is 17 in. (43.2 cm.), 20 in. (50.8 cm.) width, and 8 3/4 in. (22.2 cm.) deep.

This cool 60-year-old tweed-covered Gibson combo has had some service over the years but sounds fantastic with a killer provenance. It was in the collection of Steely Dan's Walter Becker until his passing and other than cleaning the tube sockets, jacks and pots we have left this amp as Walter's techs set it up, including more recent Jensen speaker, 3 prong grounded cord and a full set of Groove tubes.

This version of the GA-20 with the "Crest" designation is a very rare amp, only available from 1960-'61. Only 269 of these were ever shipped as it was heavily outsold by tits tremolo-equipped sister, the GA-20T. It is something of a lost gem of Gibson's line, generally similar to a tweed Fender Deluxe with a dual 12AX7, 6V6 and 5Y3 tube layout. This is a more Fender-like design than earlier Gibson amps, and sounds like it too. Rated at 16 watts with a single 12" speaker this is a great general recording amp with enough muscle for some live work. It features a simple control layout on the back/top mounted panel; two channels labeled "instrument' and "Microphone" each with two inputs, its own volume knob and sharing a master tone control.

This one shows some use but no major wear and still displays the original fragile plastic "Gibson" grill logo, which is often damaged or missing. The heavily lacquered tweed covering is fairly clean with some spots and staining on the top seams and front edges. The cool "Gibson" logo clear plastic handle remains intact, though it looks to have been remounted with larger screws long ago. The Steely Dan studio storage markings are on a large piece of red tape on the right side of the cabinet. This super cool and rare amp was curated by one of the greatest tone connoisseurs we knew, and turning it on we immediately heard why. The Walter Becker auction card and tag are included. Excellent - Condition.
