Gibson ES-335TDC Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1970), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, cherry lacquer finish, laminate Maple body, Mahogany neck, Rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
This ES-335 is an interesting transitional example with a mix of features that straddles the changes of the late '60s at Gibson. The neck is still the 1 5/8" narrow-nut version introduced in late 1965, but with the new end-of-the decade volute and "Made In USA" stamp. Other than these features, the guitar still looks very much like a late '60s example. Inside the bass side f-hole is one of the last of the old orange labels, discontinued by the middle of the year. A very nice 335 echoing the last strains of the 1960s.
Overall length is 41 9/16 in. (105.6 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This is a nicely original guitar with some wear overall, mostly on the back, and moderately heavy finish checking as is typical of this period. No repairs or alterations, just some general signs of use. The bridge pickup cover shows some corrosion into the metal on the treble edge, and some of the screws holding the pickup rings are noticeably corroded. Other than that, not a lot of wear overall.
The finish is still a nice, deep, cherry with hardly any fade. The frets show some moderately heavy wear but still play well. A nice example of a transitional 335, includes a fairly battered but mostly functional HSC. Excellent - Condition.
