Item #5981
Gibson ES-330 TD Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1960), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # R4559 32, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, laminate maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
A lovely example of a very early sunburst ES-330TD, from the second year of production. This guitar has all the early features including bound dot rosewood fingerboard, rounder "Mickey Mouse" cutaway horns and black plastic pickup covers. The single bound body is fully hollow, unlike the 335-355 series and the neck joins at the 16th fret. The tuners are single enclosed Kluson deluxe with plastic buttons. Two P-90 pickups are mated to the standard Gibson wiring rig, with amber plastic "bonnet" knobs with metal inserts and the "new" 60's style white switch tip.
Early 330's are great sounding, extremely versatile guitars and have been heard in many styles of music since the instrument was introduced. Jazz great Grant Green used this model extensively on his most well-regarded early-1960's recordings. The 330 and its nearly identical sister guitar the Epiphone Casino were featured in countless '60's British invasion bands, including the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Manfred Mann and many more.
Length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) across at the widest point, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) deep. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Some general playwear and finish checking overall; some wear to the edges of the headstock in particular but no major finish loss or damage. Original hardware except for a TonePros nickle Tune-O-Matic bridge with a post locking feature (you have to look closely to notice) and a repro pickguard bracket. An extremely fine player with the typical 1960 wide/flat neck, frets recently crowned, a superbly friendly guitar! Excellent Condition.
