Item #5988
Gibson ES-175DN Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1957), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # A-25542, natural lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This guitar is an excellent player but has seen a well-traveled life; the natural finish is all original but nearly all the hardware has been replaced. There is some average wear overall; a spot through the lacquer on the back, chips to the headstock edges and wear to the wood on the back of the neck. There is some small stress marks by the jack but no large cracks, there is a small laminate crack on the top bear the bass side waist. All are solid. The fingerboard has been expertly refretted and rebound in the correct style, with period style wire. The fittings and hardware are all the correct style but not original period. The Kluson-style tuners are the "Gibson Deluxe" marked versions from the 1980's with the Grover-type collar. The humbucking pickups and wiring rig is more recent-the pickups are not marked but do not appear to be Gibson units (the brass baseplates have 12 polepiece holes). They are good sounding and of an appropriate timbre for this guitar-these are not super hot screamers! The pickguard, knobs, truss rod cover and Tune-O-Matic bridge are all the correct type but not of the age of the guitar; the tailpiece is original but has an old visible repair at the hinge. Overall this is definitely a player's piece but a very nice one, a good sounding late '50's 175 that's roadworthy and ready to work! Very Good + Condition.
