Item #4694
Gibson ES-140T Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1959), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown alligator soft shell case.
This ES-140T extremely cool little Gibson and a surprisingly great sounding guitar. The small 3/4 size ES-140T archtop was offered through much of the 1950's, described by Gibson as perfect for students, "ladies" or guitarists desiring a compact hollow archtop. Starting in 1956 the guitar was changed to a less than 2" wide thinbody format, making for an even handier package. This extremely fine example shows few signs of use is in completely original condition.
Looking deceptively almost like a toy ES-175 the ES-140T is in fact a fully professional quality instrument with a great-feeling round profile neck, single P-90 pickup, dark sunburst finish and simple trim. With a very small body cavity the tone is a quite a bit brighter and snappier than the typical ES-175 and other full-depth hollowbodies. This late 1950's ES-140T looks fabulous, plays beautifully and has an amazingly big smooth tone for such a small instrument.
Overall length is 37 in. (94 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 3/4 in. (578 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). 100% original, no changes or even real wear-appears to have been played very little since new. Includes the original SSC in very nice shape, a period strap and cord. Just a super example! Excellent + Condition.
