Gibson EH-150 Model Tube Amplifier (1936), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 2897, tweed fabric covering finish.
A nice working example of the world's first great guitar amplifier, the Gibson EH-150. This is the earliest major style variant with a square-top upper cabinet corners; later EH-150's had a rounded-off top. The gold/brown tweed cabinet cover has orange and black vertical stripes down the center,with a black script Gibson logo in the lower right hand corner. The lower cabinet edges have leather corners and four round hard rubber feet. The prominent solid-frame leather luggage handle on top is still intact. The cabinet's speaker aperture is covered by a black metal grill.
The cabinet back panel is held by four latches, and removes for use. The chassis is bottom mounted and features the early-style control array: on/off, fuse, echo-speaker jack, microphone volume, pilot light, instruments volume, 1 mic and 2 instrument inputs and a "normal tone/bass tone" togle switch. The original Gibson "High Fidelity Ultra Sonic Reproducer"- a field coil 12" speaker-is still in fine condition. This is a good still gig-worthy amp- the EH-150 in any form was the premier amplifier of its day, as used by Charlie Christian and a host of other greats then and now.
Height is 14 1/2 in. (36.8 cm.), 15 3/8 in. (39.1 cm.) width, and 7 1/2 in. (19 cm.) deep. Some general wear and tear but intact overall, including that oft-destroyed handle. Original speaker, nice set of original (or at least period) tubes. A very solid example of the early ES-150 Amplifier. Generally Excellent Condition.
