Item #2676
Gibson EH-100 Model Tube Amplifier, c. 1936, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brown fabric covering finish.
One of Gibson's earliest amplifier designs, the EH-100 was a less expensive model issued not long after the 1935 EH-150, when the electric guitar was newly moving from novelty to practicality. The EH-100 set (solidbody steel and amp) was aimed at those (particularly students) who found $100.00 an easier pill to swallow than $150.00 for one of these newfangled creations, which sacrificed some features but is still a solid-sounding unit.
This is an early first-version EH-150 with no controls whatsoevera truly "plug and play" amplifier! The only volume control was mounted on the matching steel guitar (it was the SET that retailed at $100, not the amp alone), but there are two inputs to allow student and teacher to plug in together.
The black-covered open-back cabinet has a 10" field-coil speaker behind a round opening in the front, with a white stenciled script "Gibson" logo on the lower quarter. The corners have metal protectors, a useful feature as the fabric covering easily frays with use.
This is a useful small amp and a wonderful historical piece, one of the earliest practical amplifiers.
Height is 12 in. (30.5 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) width, and 7 in. (17.8 cm.) deep.
Overall very nice and appears all original, including handle and 'lamp'-style cord. General light scuffing to the cabinet; handle has lost most of its soft leather covering but is still mostly intact.
In good working order, and quite playable as a "one sound" amp!
