Item #3171

Gibson EB-0 Model Electric Bass Guitar (1963), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, cherry lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

This early-60's EB-0 still has many interesting early features and is a fairly rare instrument, as before 1965 these were built in the hundreds, not thousands, as would be the case later in the decade. As an early 1963 example, it would be one of the very last with the black plastic pickup cover -- replaced that year with metal -- and has the big chunky Jack Bruce-style neck that was phased out in 1965.

The sound is huge and booming, and though this bass has suffered some indignities it is still a very nice instrument and far superior-feeling bass to the many later 1960's and 70's EB's commonly found.

Overall length is 41 1/8 in. (104.4 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/4 in. (3.2 cm.) deep. Scale length is 30 1/2 in. (775 mm.).

A good playing example. Has had work done in the neck heel area (as so many have), but completely solid with a good neck angle. All original, but missing the handrest cover and the electronics backplate; all other hardware intact. A lot of finish fade and checking, especially to the front, but no excessive playwear. The imprint of where the original fingerrest was relocated for many years can still be seen above the strings. There is small chip out of the top of the headstock reaching down to the "N" in "Gibson".

Definitely a bit of a road warrior, not mint but still very original. Fully playable and ready to thump again! Very Good + Condition.
