Item #5903

Cromwell G-2 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made by Gibson, c. 1937, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

Overall length is 40 1/4 in. (102.2 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This old Gibson-made flat top has been substantially re-worked, and is an excellent playing and sounding guitar-especially for a pre-WWII instrument in this price range! The originally ladder-breced top has been re-worked with an "advanced" X-bracing pattern; the breces are quite light and the guitar is extremely responsive. The neck has been reset and the original heavy "V" profile has been rounded out to more resemble a slimmer 1940 style Gibson neck, and the back of the neck (and body) relacquered. The bridge is original but the saddle has been relocated for better intonation. All work is solidly done well if not to the highest grade cosmetically. There is some wear to the top finish but no structural issues. This is a very nice playing guitar, fairly rare and with a great period look. This would make a cool gigging instrument or budget alternative to a period Gibson L-00. Excellent - Condition.
