Gibson BR-9 Model Lap Steel Electric Guitar, c. 1949, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, tan lacquer finish, hardwood body, original brown hard shell case.
Overall length is 32 in. (81.3 cm.), 8 1/8 in. (20.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 in. (559 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/4 in. (57 mm.).
This is a nice original example of Gibson's most basic postwar lap steel, the BR-9. It is equipped with the same P-90 pickup found on most lower-end postwar Gibsons, but this early model has magnet slugs instead of adjustable poles. The tuners are the first style Kluson Deluxe with the shaft not visible on the inside edge of the cover. This guitar shows some relatively light wear, mostly dings and chips to the edges. It remains all original except the metal nut has been replaced with plastic, causing one repaired chip on the treble side. Even though a budget model this steel sounds excellent -- a typically fat singing Gibson steel with that P-90 midrange growl and some extra pop on the top end. It is still housed in its original hardshell case, which shows some wear but is more intact than many. Overall Excellent Condition.
