Item #4450
Gibson A-5L Model Carved Top Mandolin, c. 1998, made in Nashville, TN, Cremona Brown Sunburst lacquer finish, hand graduated spruce top, flamed maple back & sides, ebony bridge & fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
Like the archetypical "F-5 Artist" the A-5 belongs to the same Lloyd Loa-designed series of f-hole Gibson mandolins. This "A" model is essentially the same mandolin as the "F" model, without the upper scroll or points on the body. The "re-issue" A-5L is based on a single known Style A-5 prototype mandolin made during Lloyd Loar's tenure at Gibson. It features a full 14" scale length with suspended fingerboard extension, bound peghead with script logo and "Flowerpot" peghead inlay in mother-of-pearl.
Overall length is 26 3/4 in. (67.9 cm.), 9 3/4 in. (24.8 cm.) wide, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/16 in. (30 mm.). Very nice overall; some light play wear. Pickguard removed, otherwise original. Excellent + Condition.
