Gibson A-4 Model Carved Top Mandolin (1922), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 70004, red sunburst top, dark stained back and sides finish, birch back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

Overall length is 25 3/4 in. (65.4 cm.), 10 1/4 in. (26 cm.) wide, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). Some play wear overall but a nicely original example. The pickguard is missing but all other hardware is original and intact. there are wear spots from play on both sides of the neck heel and the finish on the back of the neck is fairly heavily worn down. The top finish is not too worn; there are several deep but very narrow scratches in the area of the missing pickguard. This is a very good sounding and playing early-Loar era A-4, played well but not abused. Overall Very Good + Condition.
