Item #3655
Gibson A-2 Model Carved Top Mandolin (1921), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brown varnish finish, birch body, spruce top, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
An extremely fine example of a just pre-Loar Gibson mandolin, this brown-top A-2 is a delightful instrument in many ways. Interesting transitional features include the earliest version of Gibson's adjustable bridge with an unusual aluminum saddle and the pickguard clamp which combines the newer metal bracket shaft with the old-style clamp. This is also a great sounding and playing mandolin, with a woody tone and plenty of bark.
Overall length is 25 5/8 in. (65.1 cm.), 10 1/4 in. (26 cm.) wide, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.).
Incredibly well-preserved; one of the cleanest older Gibson mandolins we have ever seen. A little wear to the neck and heel area; otherwise looks almost new. Excellent + Condition.
