Item #5166
Fender Telecaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1969), made in Fullerton, California, sunburst finish, ash body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, molded plastic hard shell case.
This is a fairly rare example of a late 60's Telecaster in a sunburst finish, a custom option of the time. The guitar's neck is also built with the unusual combination of a 'skunk stripe' maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard peculiar to this specific era, when Fender first revived the original style one-piece maple neck, and then apparently made up rosewood fingerboard orders from the same stock! The neck carries no date but is correct style for the second half of 1969, with the thinner poly finish but headstock face sprayed over the decal with lacquer. The body is medium weight ash and this is a good feeling Tele with plenty of snap.
Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). This cool '69 Sunburst Tele does have some issues, but remains an excellent sounding and playing guitar. Most of the top has been oversprayed with lacquer; there appears to be a large filled route under the pickguard and some old dinging around the control area. Neck and back boby finish are original, as is all the hardware. Correct '66 dated pots, later pickups and switch appear good artermarket replacements. Restored original tuners (Fender "F" Style-there are screw holes for Klusons as well) and the switch-the switch mounting slot in the original control plate has a slight enlargement at one end, probably from an old improper switch installation. The original owners name is lightly engraved in a couple of spots internally. Refretted fairly recently with correct large wire and a new nut, a very nice job. Includes a molded "lite-flight" case, a very good gigging 60's Telecaster. Overall Very Good + Condition.
