Item #7306
Fender Telecaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1967), made in Fullerton, California, Blonde lacquer finish, ash body, maple neck with maple cap fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
This overall well preserved Telecaster was built just around 2 1/2 years after Fender became CBS/Fender, and is still a wonderful instrument in the grand Leo tradition. The neck date is November 1967 and the pots codes are dated to the 17th week of 1966. The evolving features of the Telecaster specific to this era include a 3-ply laminated white plastic pickguard (replacing the earlier white single-layer and subsequent green nitro versions) with a slightly heavier blonde lacquer finish, a laid-on maple fingerboard (still a custom order feature in 1967), the then-new "big" logo decal (instituted by CBS so the guitar would be more recognizable on TV) and the new-style Fender-made "F plate" tuners. This Tele has a medium light (just under 8 LB) ash body that handles perfectly, and a very comfortable neck with a lovely worn-in lacquer finish, much thinner than the Polyester used the next year. A very cool 1960's Telecaster, all original and super twangy!
Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 12 5/8 in. (32.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). This is a great sounding and excellent playing Telecaster with the crackling, very bright tone typical of later 60's Teles. Apart from some average play wear to the lacquer on the fingerboard, one noticeable ding to the top and the some small examples of the traditional Tele body edge wear it a very well preserved 'maple cap' guitar. It appears to likely have had a very careful refret some time ago with period style wire some time ago; this is practically undetectable. The frets have some light wear currently in the lower positions but play fine. There was also a second string tree added to the headstock long ago; it looks to be the same age as the original. The guitar also appears to always have been carefully played with the "ashtray" bridge cover always on; the bridge hardware underneath looks practically new with no wear or corrosion. All original electronics and solder joints, nothing appears to have ever been disturbed in the wiring-the pickups are noticeably microphonic, and look to have never been removed for any wax potting. A fine example of this period Telecaster, includes a decent OHSC. Excellent - Condition.
