Item #7431
Fender Musicmaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar, c. 1959, made in Fullerton, California, serial # 31513, desert sand lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck, original brown tolex hard shell case.
A good-playing and fairly early example of Fender's first student guitarthe unassuming but very functional Musicmaster. Built primarily to expand the company's hold on the teaching studio/young student market these guitars were many players' first electric, far more playable than most competitors and stylish in an understated way. The Musicmaster features a narrow, short-scale maple neck and a single pickup with volume and tone controls. This particular guitar dates to early 1959 with a neck dated to February that year. The neat, comfortable little neck has the classic '58 Fender "rounded V" profile. The original anodized metal pickguard still looks sharp! This guitar has not been stripped of its more valuable parts (knobs, neckplate, pots and wiring) as so many have! A neat package, includes original tan case making for a very cool and relatively affordable 1950's Fender guitar.
Overall length is 37 5/8 in. (95.6 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). This guitar is fairly well-worn but all original, and still a fine player. The body shows dings and scrapes overall, with some chipping to the edges and a spot on the upper horn where it appears some stick-on letters were scraped away. There is some corrosion on the knobs, neckplate and bridge; the anodized aluminum pickguard has some lacquer worn off but does not have any spots of deep wear through the gold finish, as many do. The fingerboard shows some typical wear but the frets still have a decent amount of life left. A cool and great feeling example of Fender's earliest student guitar, complete with the original hard case. Very Good + Condition.
