Item #4969
Fender Jazzmaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965), made in Fullerton, California, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, gig bag case.
This is an exceptionally nice "Early CBS" Fender Jazzmaster, built just a few months after Leo's company was sold into CBS corporate slavery! The neck date is April 1965; the typical appointments for that year include the bright, "tight" sunburst finish with little color blending, tortoise plastic (not nitro) laminated pickguard and neckplate with a later "L" series serial number. The rosewood fingerboard has pearl dot inlay but no binding, a combination only found only in 1965. A very fine 'transition era" guitar, not technically a Pre-CBS instrument but still with the superb feel and sound of a "real" Fender!
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Very clean, all original; finish bright and unfaded. Some dents into the finish on the back of the body, otherwise very little wear-a truly superb example. Plays and sounds extremely fine, one of the nicest of this era we have seen. Excellent + Condition.
