Fender Jazzmaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1959), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 37125, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original tweed hard shell case.
This is a splendid early Jazzmaster, with a beautiful 3-color sunburst and the classic gold anodized pickguard, used only up to the summer of '59. As is typical of the spring of 1959 there is no date pencil marked on the neck heel; the pots however date to the 11th and 16th week of that year. The Jazzmaster was still a fairly new model, and top of the line, when this example was made and Fender definitely lavished the maximum of care and effort on their production. Used but not abused, this well-cared-for guitar remains an exceptional sounding and extremely attractive twang machine. This one has a nice "ring" to the tone, even when not plugged in.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Extremely fine condition overall, this guitar is very clean and all original with one small oddity: at some point, someone sanded a tiny bit off the flat bottom surface of the neck, just where the screws go through to mount it flat to the body. We don't know why this was done; it really doesn't affect the guitar in any functional way but it is noticeable on inspection where the neck and body meet. Apart from this rather quizzical minor alteration, this is a fantastic original guitar; all hardware and finish is original, including the oft-missing bridge cover and vibrato arm, and even the amber switch tip. The original anodized pickguard is in exceptionally fine shape. The top finish is very clean and unfaded with some tiny dings and light checking; the back has one decent sized area of buckle wear. There is some light wear to the back of the neck, and the original frets have taken down a bit but are very playable. These very early Jazzmasters are among our very favorite Fenders; this one sounds every bit as good as we expect. Includes the original tweed case with the owner's name discreetly added to the top edge. Excellent - Condition.
