Item #6648

Fender Jazz Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1965), made in Fullerton, California, Candy Apple Red lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

This is a lovely example of an early-CBS era custom color Fender Jazz Bass, moderately well played but all original and generally very well preserved. It features typical transitional features- most notably a pearl dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard without the binding that appeared by the end of 1965 (this neck is dated to October 1965 and would be one of the very last unbound necks produced). Other markers include the transition gold logo decal, the white plastic pickguard and the old-style Kluson tuners soon replaced with Fender-made copies. The body is finished in a vibrant Candy Apple Red lacquer finish with a gold undercoat, also typical for 1965. A very fine player and all-around super sharp looking bass.

Overall length is 46 1/2 in. (118.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.). This is a nicely original bass with some average finish wear overall. The Candy Apple Red lacquer shows a number of dings, chips, crazing and some worn-through spots to the undercoat, and through to the wood in some areas on the edges and back. The neck finish is fairly well worn on the back, with the headstock showing some small edge chips and a single typical cigarette burn. The only alterations are a very good professional refret (with a new nut) using slightly taller wire, and the neck pickup has had a wax re-potting to reduce microphonics. The original owner's name is scratched in small letters into the serial # plate, under the "F" with the small letters "UAH" above. This is a great-playing bass, medium-light in weight and extremely resonant. Includes a fairly well used but still functional original HSC, with some stenciling on the face. Overall Excellent - Condition.
