Item #4799
Fender Jazz Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1962), made in Fullerton, California, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown tolex hard shell case.
Here is a wonderful feeling and sounding Fender bassan early 'three-knob' Jazz Bass in very fine original condition. The neck is marked 7 OCT 62, the pots are from somewhat earlier that year (stamped 304-6212). Completed in late 1962, this bass still carries most of the characteristic traits of a '61 'stack-knob' including (under the tailpiece cover) the mounting holes for individual mutes and outside metal grounding strip. The clay dot, "half slab" rosewood fingerboard neck is exquisitely comfortable.
The lightweight alder body carries a bright unfaded sunburst finish. Perfectly balanced, this Jazz Bass has a very well defined, upfront powerful sound with plenty of character. This is one of the finest Fender basses we have had in a long time and carries a serious vibe, for any Jaco fan, bass player or classic Fender bass conoisseur.
Overall length is 46 1/2 in. (118.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.). All original except for handrest screws, which look changed out long ago. There are numerous small finish dings and dents, but no major wear (some buckle wear to back), no damage or repairs. Includes the original brown HSC, a bit worn but fully functional. Generally Excellent Condition.
