Fender Jazz Bass JB-62ISL Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (2009), made in Corona, CA, serial # T901752, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard, original brown tolex hard shell case.

Fender's 2009 Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass is a fretless '62 style reissue specifically modeled on Jaco's famous "Bass of Doom", his most famous performance instrument. This bass was issued in 2009 as a limited model with a 3-color gloss nitrocellulose sunburst finish alder body, shipped without a pickguard mounted although one is included. The '62 style maple "C" profile neck has a lined fretless pau ferro fingerboard with white markers and a thin overfinish, although Fender did not add the many layers of boat epoxy Jaco himself applied to the fingerboards of his personal basses!

The electronics include two American Vintage single-coil Jazz Bass pickups, wired to the 1962 style 3-pot rig with ribbed metal Telecaster style knobs. Other hardware includes correct '60s style components including the 4-saddle American Vintage bridge, reverse open-gear tuners and a signature-stamped neck plate featuring Jaco's name. This 2009 issue is not a pre-aged relic; it comes bone stock clean so if you want it to look like "The Bass of Doom", you'll have to play the heck out of it yourself! It plays and sounds fine but as to capturing Jaco's singular sound, well, that's up to you!

Overall length is 46 1/2 in. (118.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.).

This 15+ year old bass remains original and complete in very fine condition appearing very little used with only some light scuffs, and a few tiny dings on the edges. It is complete as sold in 2009 with a large quantity of paperwork and extras in the case, including a collection of original-style parts to convert it into a standard 1962-era reissue. These include the pickguard, chrome handrest and bridge cover, finger rest, spring mutes, foam mute strip and screws for mounting them, plus a large collection of paperwork including the original receipt from 2009. This is a fine playing and sounding fretless bass, a solid tribute to its truly singular namesake player complete in the original brown Tolex HSC. Excellent + Condition.
