Here's a fairly rare Fender custom-color variation- a 1969 Jaguar with a gleaming black finish. This color option was rarely ordered in the 1960's (a brighter era, in some ways!) making the stark B & W aesthetics of this guitar both scarce and striking today. By 1969, the Jaguar was starting to fade from Fender's line, as older designs like the Stratocasters and Telecasters proved more useful for the high-volume music of the day. Jaguars from this era were produced in much smaller numbers than the earlier 1960's. Specific characteristics of this guitar are mostly similar to pre-CBS examples, the most visible difference being the bound, pearloid block inlaid fingerboard introduced in 1966. The pickguard is the white plastic phased in beginning spring 1965; all other hardware remained unchanged except for the Fender-fabricated tuners in place of the older Klusons. This is an excellent playing and sounding Jag, and the black-chrome-and-pearloid look is both badass hillbilly deluxe and surf noir nirvana.
Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Very clean overall; some light finish wear (Most notably a large case-rub area to the lower back edge of the body) and small dings but the original custom color finish as a whole is very well preserved. All hardware is original except the tuner mounting screws; the mute has been re-equipped with newer rubber foam and actually works quite well. There are signs of touch-up on the headstock face between the nut and the logo, likely the result of some sort of now-inexplicable extra string trees or locking nut attempt-not super obvious but visible under close examination. An excellent player and a uniquelycool looking 60's Fender! Includes a newer repro HSC. Overall Excellent Condition.
