Item #5925

Fender Competition Mustang Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1971), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 308249, metallic blue with racing stripe finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.

An amazingly original and well preserved blue competion finish Mustang Bass, 100% original and completely unaltered. This bass was built near the end of the run for the rather whimsical 'competition' version of the model, with the blue metallic 'car' finish and 'racing' stripe on the body but a natural headstock. The Mustang Bass, introduced in 1966, is still one of the best short-scale basses ever designed as well as Leo Fender's last original design for the company that bore his name. This one has pots dated to the 16th week of 1971 but all features (including the snazzy pearloid pickguard) are nearly identical to 1960's models. A superb playing bass and a neat piece of Fender history.

Overall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 12 3/8 in. (31.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 30 in. (762 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). We rarely describe vintage instruments as near mint, but this one fits the bill! Virtually no wear, some tiny handling marks and the fret ends have been attended to-otherwise this bass appears to have seen virtually no use. As nice as we ever expect to see a 40+ year old Fender Bass, set up with flatwound strings and including the original pebble grey HSC with the grey plastic cable. Near Mint Condition.
