Item #13519
Electro-Harmonix Octave Multiplexer Model Octave Effect (1973), made in New York City, natural aluminum finish, aluminum enclosure.
This is an early example of Electro-Harmonix's Octave Multiplexer effect, a bass-oriented octave pedal that generates a beefy monophonic suboctave layer. The controls are just three knobs: two to control the bass and treble filters to sculpt the suboctave's tone and a dry/wet blend knob. There is also a "sub" switch for additional low end if that was not enough.
This model was only made for a relatively short run compared to other EHX mainstays and was discontinued until its reissue around the new millenium; this one is not the very first gen, which showed the same controls in a slightly different order with slightly different knobs, but is the second iteration and bears an identical circuit save the order of the knobs. The pedal runs off a standard 9V but requires, as many old EHX pedals do, a 0.355mm adapter.
Length is 7 in. (17.8 cm.), 5 1/2 in. (14 cm.) width, and 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm.) deep.
This pedal is in all original and fully functional condition with just a bit of cosmetic wear over the years. The top of the aluminum enclosure is freckled with patina and the battery compartment backing is missing. Despite its visual pedigree of stage use, all functions as it should! Very Good + Condition.
