EBS Multi Comp Owned and Used by Tom Verlaine Model Compressor Effect (2010), made in Sweden, grey finish, aluminum.

This is the earliest "grey box" version of the Multi-Comp pedal, introduced in 1998 by Swedish Bass amp and effects company EBS. It features three compression settings: "normal" is a typical solid-state compression algorithm, "tubesim" simulates the harmonic distortion of a tube compressor, and "multi" splits the compression into a treble and a bass band that operate independently of one another, which is often used to smooth out the top end of a bass, especially when playing with a pick.

This early version of the pedal uses a buffered bypass and has an attenuator switch (between -4 and -10dVB) to give more flexibility with active and passive basses. Described by EBS as their most popular pedal, The Multi-Comp has found a following since it was introduced in the late 90's, and has been used by bassists in projects ranging from the Grateful Dead to Rage Against the Machine and Lamb of God!

Height is 10 in. (25.4 cm.), 7 in. (17.8 cm.) width, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at deepest point.

This pedal is in fully functional, all original condition with minimal traces of cosmetic wear from stage and studio use by Mr. Verlaine. Two screws from the back are missing; in handling so many of Tom's things, we find a consistent pattern of missing screws and battery compartment covers. It is clear that whatever measures he could take to minimize the amount of time it would take for him to change a battery if need be, he would take. This pedal does not come with a box or power supply (it takes a common 9V adapter), but it does come with a letter of authenticity signed by Patrick Derivaz, Verlaine's close friend and long time musical collaborator from whom we received the pedal. Excellent Condition.
