EarthQuaker Devices Rainbow Machine Model Octave and Pitch Effect (2010s), made in Akron, Ohio, serial # 13587, natural aluminum finish, enclosure.
Earthquaker is known for its whimsical, unconventional creations, and the Rainbow Machine is among the most fun. It is fundamentally a pitch bending and octave pedal with many twists; usually hot pink, this one is in a limited edition colorway only sold for a brief time at Guitar Center. According to EQD, the DSP at the heart of this pedal is designed to be slightly imperfect; colored with digital remnants of the cosmic dust we've picked up across the multiverse."
The pitch knobs serves as a sort of anchor; right of center leads to pitched up echoes and twinkles, and left of center is for slinky descending pitch shifting, and center creates a chorus effect. There are knobs for further tailoring the various layers of pitch shifting (primary and secondary), tone, and mix (tracking). Of course, there is the "Magic" knob and corresponding footswitch for momentary or latching... magic. Magic is a regeneration control that refeeds the signals back into each other to greate all sorts of glitches, spirals, oscillation, and unexpected delights (or horrors).
This Rainbow Machine is clean, fully functional, all original, and shows minimal signs of use aside from some general scuffs and dings from light use. It runs off a standard 9V adapter and does not come with its original box. Excellent - Condition.
