5 String Fretless Banjo, most likely made by Dobson, c. 1870, natural varnish finish, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, rosewood laminated rim.
Addition of solid brass tone ring as well as geared tuners. Ebony bridge features one of Ray's more intricate acoustical designs. End of fingerboard has 2" scoop.
Overall length is 37 1/2 in. (95.2 cm.), 11 in. (27.9 cm.) diameter head. Scale length is 26 in. (660 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/8 in. (35 mm.). Excellent Condition.
