Item #3734

Dobro Style 55 Standard Model Resophonic Guitar (1929), made in Los Angeles, brown sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck, black tolex hard shell case.

A very early Los Angeles-made Dobro in extremely well-preserved condition. This is a roundneck Style 55 with an original high nut for Hawaiian play, and appears unaltered since new. The coverplate is marked "Pat. Pend.", tuners are deluxe engraved Waverly strips (as used on National Tricones), and there is no serial number. These first Dobros, made soon after company founder John Dopyera's split from the National company, are very high quality instruments compared to the Depression-era examples that follow.

Overall length is 38 3/8 in. (97.5 cm.), 14 1/8 in. (35.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

Some light play and edge wear, but overall an extremely original and well-preserved example. Sounds fabulous! Excellent Condition.
