Dobro Squareneck No. 37 Model Resophonic Guitar, c. 1936, made in Chicago, serial # 264, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated mahogany body, basswood neck with rosewood fingerboard.

This squareneck Dobro is typical of the Chicago-based Regal-made models of mid-1930's, after the Los Angeles based National-Dobro company began outsourcing production. The solid (as opposed to slotted) headstock is typical of post-1935 guitars; most other details remained pretty much the same. The features typical of a period Model 37 include a bound sunburst laminated mahogany body and two screen holes but no holes in the top under the fingerboard; some fingerboards were bound-this is not. Old Dobros are the most inconsistent of all guitars in terms of catalog spec, but luckily it makes little difference to the player! This is a very good sounding Dobdo with the classic pre-war twang, ready to play for another 70+ years.

Overall length is 38 7/8 in. (98.7 cm.), 14 1/4 in. (36.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.). Nicely preserved overall-some general finish wear, all original except tuners (1950's Waverlys) and a replaced nut. Nice patina overall, original cone and coverplate are not shined up put plating is intact. This a really good gigging pre-war Dobro. Excellent - Condition.
