Item #5468

Silvertone Model #1444 Model Electric Bass Guitar, made by Danelectro (1962), made in Neptune, NJ, black lacquer finish, masonite and pine body, poplar neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

The classic Silvertone "Dolphin Nose" bass, made by Danelectro for Sears beginning in 1959. This one carries pots dated to late 1962, so maybe some budding bassist got it under the tree that year! With a long 22 fret nack and single "lipstick" pickup the #1444 is an extremely useful bass, light, handy and easy to play. The classic garage band bass, still a good value 50 years later!

Overall length is 43 1/2 in. (110.5 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 29 1/2 in. (749 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). Nice overall with typical light wear-some small scuffs and corrosion, nothing major. All original finish and hardware-the only alteration is tuners have been restored to original Klusons (mounted upside-down, as per spec!). There looks to have been several other tuner installations (including what appears to have been a 2-tab Grover banjo tuner!) so there are some small screwholes and marks to the rear of the headstock; nothing visible on the face which retains the original bushings. One small split to the pickup cover, does not affect function. Typical excellent sound and playability, includes the large Masonite OHSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
