Item #4029
Danelectro Longhorn Model # 4423 Model Electric Bass Guitar, c. 1958, made in Red Bank, NJ, copper/white sunburst finish, masonite and pine body, poplar neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown hard shell case.
An extremely rare Danelectro, this Longhorn bass is from the first year or so of production and features both pickups in the neck position; all later models featured the second PU mounted down by the bridge. These first series Longhorn basses shared the exact same body routing as the companion 6-string Guitarlin, accounting for this oddity! The Longhorn in general is Danelectro's most iconic bass creation, and this is the earliest and by far the rarest version.
Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 29 3/4 in. (756 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
All original except the knobs (old vintage Danelectro but from a Silvertone model). Some general playwear, especially to the upper waist, and some wear through the finish just at the edge of the guard. A small chunk appears to have been trimmed off the top edge of the clear plastic pickguard, between the pickups. Overall a good-playing example of a very rare bass. Very Good + Condition.
