Collings MF Model Carved Top Mandolin (2025), made in Austin, TX, serial # F2379, brown sunburst satin finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; maple neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

This is a very clean recent example of one of the best regarded modern F-5 descendants, the Collings MF. This basic MF model has a satin finish and simplified appointments but still features the traditional fully-carved Adirondack spruce top and maple back and sides. The MF is built with the same quality construction as the fancier Collings models, just plainer cosmetics. These are designed to produce a professional quality mandolin sound at a lower price point.

The hand-written serial number is #2379, indicating this example was built recently in 2025. It has the traditional Gibson-derived Scroll-body F-5 format with a carved F-hole spruce top echoed by the headstock. The carved two-piece back, sides and neck are curly maple. The craftsmanship and sound of Collings' mandolins are exceptional for modern instruments in this price class; this one has hardly been played and is just starting to be broken in.

Overall length is 27 1/2 in. (69.8 cm.), 9 15/16 in. (25.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 13/16 in. (4.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/8 in. (29 mm.).

This almost-new mandolin has been played very little and remains clean, all original and well cared for. Overall the satin finish shows almost no wear, just some tiny handling marks and scuffs. The frets show virtually no wear and playability is excellent, with a bright rich sound that will mature as the instrument is played. It resides in the original HSC with the Collings warranty card. Excellent Condition.
