C. F. Martin Model B Model Flat Back, Bent Top Mandolin (1920), made in Nazareth, PA, natural varnish finish, Brazillian rosewood back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck.
The Martin Style B Mandolin is the equivalent of the guitar Style 21: Brazilian rosewood body with herringbone inlay in the backstrip and soundhole, multiple wood binding back and front, and slotted diamond inlay in the ebony fingerboard. The headstock has the Vinaccia-style cutout and inset tuners with an engraved coverplate.
Style Bs are a big step up from the far more common Style A mahogany mandolins, both in looks and sound. This is a great playing example and one of the loudest and finest-toned Martin mandolins we have ever had.
Overall length is 24 in. (61 cm.), 9 in. (22.9 cm.) wide, and 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 in. (330 mm.).
Very well-preserved; a couple of repaired cracks (one in the back, one in bass side tuner area of the headstock). Some minor finish wear, otherwise excellent overall. Excellent Condition.
