Item #5406
C. F. Martin HD-28 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1983), made in Nazareth, PA, natural finish, Rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, black hard shell case.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 15 5/8 in. (39.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). Very well worn for its age, this 1983 150th Anniversary HD-28 is unusually good sounding and must have had an interesting life so far! There is some serious if isolated pick wear into the wood at the treble side of the top by the bridge and pickguard, some scratches above the low E string and a decent amount of finish wear and checking overall. The back, sides and neck are cleaner than the top. There are several cracks to the lower side on the treble bout, sealed but visible-the longest extends from the turn of the bout nearly up to the waist, and a couple of small cleated cracks in the upper side waist area. Strap button hole on the treble side of the heel. There is a marrow area along the spine on the back of the neck about 5" long that is scraped down a bit, either on purpose or from a particularly aggressive capo. The guitar appears original except for a replaced pickguard-the one currently mounted is a bright mottled tortoiseshell pattern rather unlike a standard Martin style. The finish on this guitar is quite a bit lighter than a 70's Martin, and the sound is much deeper and warmer than most 80's Martins. There is an endpin jack and old '80's contact pickup installed. An excellent player; well worn but very friendly; a fine gigging D-28 with more character than its age would suggest. Overall Very Good + Condition.
