Item #515

C. F. Martin D-28 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1964), made in USA, natural lacquer finish, spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Macassar ebony fretboard and bridge, purple lined black hard shell case.

This is a particularly fine example of a "Folk Era" D-28, with no modifications and only minor wear. Nicely-aged amber spruce top with a tortoise shell celluloid pickguard, 6-layer celluloid binding around body, and original long-saddle bridge. Beautifully grained Brazilian rosewood back and sides with wide chain-link pattern back stripe.

Ebony fretboard with mother of pearl dot markers graduating in size. The rounded-corner headstock (typical of this era) has original PAT. PEND. Grover Rotomatic tuners. Great sound, brighter than many era D-28s. Martin built 976 guitars of this model in 1964, at the height of the guitar boom.

Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/4 in. (12.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 3/8 in. (644 mm.).

Minor playing wear on lower sound hole rim and top just behind the pickguard near the bridge, with a very small typical Martin pickguard crack. Two small areas of finish damage to the back, very minor dings on lower side. Added strap button on treble side of heel, patched strap button hole on side above heel. Overall condition very clean with light normal playwear. Case very clean with Martin and Bean Blossom Festival stickers applied.
