Item #5593
C. F. Martin D-18 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1956), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top; rosewood fingerboard, molded plastic hard shell case.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 15 5/8 in. (39.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
A very fine player's D-18 from the 1950s; some restoration and average wear overall, but no functional issues. The neck has been refinished (a very fine professional job, to original specs) and the tuners are modern repros of the original Kluson Deluxe machines. There are some insignificant grain cracks on the back of the headstock off the tuner screw holes; these have been neatly repaired. Several sets of tuners have been on the guitar over the years.
There is a small patch in the mahogany in the treble side waist; well-executed, but not a perfect grain match. The body finish is original (and not badly preserved overall) except for some small areas of touch-up -- the most significant are over the side patch and environs and most notably to an area of pickwear to the top in the typical spot around the bridge-pickguard junction. There is some wear on the top back edge through the finish. Very fine repro bridge, with the original bridgeplate.
The guitar is set up well with a very good recent neck set and proper saddle height with room in either direction. Overall this is an excellent-playing and sounding 1950s D-18, and a good-looking one to boot! Overall Very Good + Condition.
