C. F. Martin 000-28 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1965), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 200256, natural lacquer finish, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

Here is a real delight in a 1960's Martin-an almost perfectly preserved 000-28 from 1965. Rosewood 000's from this period are surprisingly rare guitars. Only 176 were produced this mid-decade year and a grand total of around 950 examples produced in all of the 1960's, making the 000-28 very much a connoisseur's model even then. Nearly that number of D-28's were shipped out of Nazareth in 1965 alone!

This 000 has the classic early-1960's appointments; multi-layer celluloid binding back and top, long-saddle bridge, dot-inlaid ebony fingerboard and nickel-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners. With beautiful Brazilian rosewood on the back and sides and a lovely tight-grained spruce top with a hint of bear claw figure this is a fabulous guitar to look at; still, the real beauty comes in the playing. This guitar responds extremely well to both a light and heavier-handed strumming approach, and is extremely responsive. The 000-28 is one of our favorite 1960's Martin models, and this is one of the best examples we have seen.

Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). Very fine original condition; this guitar has had a recent clean neckset, no other repairs or alterations. Some small finish marks here and there and small capo nicks to the neck but overall this is a spectacularly well preserved Martin. This guitar puts out a beautiful, perfectly modulated tone; it is an excellent fingerpicking instrument and also excels as a strummed guitar, with a powerfully crisp yet deeply resonant sound. A particularly fine 1960's Martin in far better than average condition, with a fine original HSC. Excellent Condition.
