C. F. Martin 000-18 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1962), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, brazillian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, black tolex original chipboard case.
A really fine example of a folk-era early 1960's 000-18. This guitar came from the original owner's family, and has been very well cared for during its 43 years. It has never been repaired or altered and sounds and plays great.
The headstock is the very rounded shape seen on these 1960's guitars, and features individual Grover Sta-Tite tuners. The mahogany back has a dark striped figure unusual for Martins of any era, and is a particularly attractive feature. The tight-grained spruce top has a beautiful amber tone and shows remarkably little wear.
Included are the original softshell case and various string packets, string receipts, and several pieces of sheet music which the guitar's owner used to serenade his family long ago.
Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.).
Very clean and original with only very light playwearone tiny (less than 1/2") crack on lower side; otherwise, no cracks or damage at all. Some minor finish dings and scuffs are all that is noticeable. This guitar has spent its entire life up to now strung with silk-and-steel strings, and the top, bridge, saddle, and neck angle are as they left the Martin factory. Some pitting to the fingerboard in the first position and light fretwear.
Simply a delightful guitar and an increasingly rare and wonderful find in this well-preserved state. Excellent + Condition.
