C. F. Martin 0-28VS Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (2018), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 2171248, natural lacquer finish, rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
This 2018 Martin 0-28VS is one of the modern company's fairly rare excursions into re-creating their early, small bodied instruments for the modern player. The 0-28VS is essentially a re-issue of the late 1920s 0-28 built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid east Indian rosewood back and sides. The 12-fret mahogany neck has a very subtle soft "V" profile with a scale length of 24.9", a slotted headstock and a 1 7/8" wide nut. The fingerboard is black ebony with slotted diamond pearl inlay and 12 frets clear,
Other characteristic aesthetic appointments include the classic Style 28 herringbone top trim with a white outer layer, zig-zag back purfling, grained ivoroid heelcap, a small rectangular ebony bridge and no pickguard. This is a good sounding, easily handling guitar; if built somewhat heavier than its 1920s ancestors it still embodies their spirit and aesthetics in a lovely small-body package.
Overall length is 38 1/16 in. (96.7 cm.), 13 5/8 in. (34.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/16 in. (10.6 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 7/8 in. (632 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.).
This is a very clean guitar overall, showing only very light signs of play. The finish has small scuffs and handling wear but no real play wear to speak of. For performance purposes there is an added L.R. Baggs pickup under the bridge with a soundhole volume control setup. A strap button has been added on the heel. This is a very nice playing instrument, we wish Martin would make more of these! It includes the original hardshell case. Overall Excellent Condition.
