Item #6195
C. F. Martin 0-18 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1938), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, ebony fingerboard, black hard shell case.
Overall length is 38 11/16 in. (98.3 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This guitar has had quite a bit of use and some old repair work but is an excellent player. There is general finish wear over the entire guitar, especially to the top and the back of the neck. There are fewer cracks than one might expect; just a couple old spruce grain splits off the treble side of the pickguard and one on the soundhole edge by the treble side of the fingerboard. The bridge has been reglued more than once with a couple of visible pulls to the spruce, and the bridgeplate is a later rosewood replacement-not huge, but bigger than the original. Five of the tuners are the original openback Grover Sta-Tites with some corrosion-the G string tuner is a 1950's Waverly. The sound is very sweet and fairly dark for an 0 size Martin-this would make an excellent instrument for voice accompaniment or solo playing. Ragged but right, a very cool pre-war guitar at a postwar price! Overall Very Good + Condition.
