5 String Banjo, most likely made by Buckbee, c. 1870, probably New York City, natural finish, spunover rim, rosewood neck and dowel. Stamped "E. Hammig, New York" on dowel.
Overall length is 36 in. (91.4 cm.), 11 1/2 in. (29.2 cm.) diameter head, and 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 26 1/2 in. (673 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.).
Newer fretted and inlaid ebony fingerboard and planetary tuners added; otherwise substantially original. Overall Excellent Condition.
