Item #1617
Bacon & Day Silver Bell #1 Model Guitar Banjo, c. 1927, made in Groton CT, brown lacquer finish, Maple rim and neck, ebony fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
A great example of a rare Bacon & Day instrument -- the Silver Bell #1 Banjo-Guitar. Although listed as a catalog item, not many of these striking instruments were made and they are not often seen.
Full silver Bell appointments, f-hole flange, pedal mute, fancy pearl in headstock and fingerboard. Multiple ebony/maple laminates to neck, heel and head, bound heavy ebony fingerboard and resonator rim.
Original patent pending Planet tuners and 6-string tailpiece, round portholes in outside of tone ring sheath. Very thick neck with comfortable round profile, plays perfectly.
Overall length is 36 in. (91.4 cm.), 11 1/2 in. (29.2 cm.) diameter head, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.).
Excellent overall, all original except overspray and buffing to headstock face. Some light finish wear and dings, most noticeable on back of resonator. Set up with Remo plastic head, original Bacon bridge (cut down slightly) plays and sounds great. New HSC.
