This charmingly named and constructed beast is the Audio Kitchen Flying Squirrel, flown across the pond to us from the UK. It is a tube-driven box of thick, fine-tunable fuzz and drive meant to be played loud and proud, apparently even being the choice of Dave Grohl on several Foo Fighters records. The controls are a bit playful, but easily deciphered. Gain and dirt are pretty self-explanatory; "tail" is for low end and "teeth" for treble. An interesting note about this pedal's EQ is that it occurs post gain in the circuit, meaning one can draw out additional low or high end without necessarily increasing the amount of gain or tube saturation in the signal. Off to the west of the "tree" are a three-way toggle between various boost gain stage and two-way toggle between the triode or pentode circuits for additional fuzzy flavors.
The righthand stomp is a channel selector toggling between the "squirrel" and "clean" line out while the left hand "fly" stomp pummels the EL84 tube circuit with heaps of additional gain. There are two level knobs for both the clean line out and the "squirrel" line out; the pre-amp is a standalone unit and can be run striaght to an interface. It cannot, however, drive a cabinet. This pedal is capable of a truly surprising range of tones from a light drive to speaker shattering fuzz. Plug in and let it fly!
Height is 7 in. (17.8 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) width, and 11 1/8 in. (28.3 cm.) deep.
This Flying Squirrel is in overall healthy condition with just some dings and scratches commensurate with pedal usage over the years. The cute plastic leaves apparatus shielding the tubes is fully in tact. There's a bit of wear and scuffing into the paint, for example on the little squirrel face up front. However, the pedal is completely original inside and out and works at full functionality either as an effect or an amp of its own. It runs off a standard IEC cable and does not come with its original box. Overall Excellent - Condition.
