5 String Banjo, labeled Alfred Cammeyer, c. 1885, probably New York City, natural finish, spunover rim, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard.
This is a heavily-reworked 19th century banjo, in the Dobson/Buckbee style. The nickel-plated heelplate is engraved "Alfred Cammeyer Trade Mark". Fancy pearl fingerboard and headstock inlay with an unaltered rim, giving a very authentic old-time sound.
Overall length is 37 1/8 in. (94.3 cm.), 12 in. (30.5 cm.) diameter head, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 27 1/2 in. (698 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/16 in. (33 mm.). Very Good + Condition.
