Item #3830
Franklin 12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1994), made in Sandpoint, Idaho, natural lacquer finish, koa back, sides and mahogany neck, spruce top, original black hard shell case.
A very interesting and unusual modern variant of the 1920s vintage Oscar Schmidt/Stella 12-string design. This guitar was custom designed and built by Nick Kukich at Franklin Guitars in 1994 with a Stella-style ladder-braced mahogany body with modern profile round-backed neck and a solid headstock.
The setup of the bridge and tailpiece is most unusual, with six of the strings being anchored at the Stella-style tailpiece and the others (the octave strings on the lower pairs) terminating in notches at the base of the bridge. This is intended to equalize string pressure and add complexity to the sound. Overall, this is a beautifully made and very fine-sounding guitar, capturing the 1920s Stella sound with the playability of a modern instrument.
Overall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 15 1/2 in. (39.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) high. Scale length is 26 1/2 in. (673 mm.).
Very little wear; no damage or repairs. A few small dings, otherwise near mint. Excellent + Condition.
