thomas-prisloe-classical-guitar-2000-14117
Thomas Prisloe Classical Guitar (2000)
Thomas Prisloe Classical Guitar (2000), Trumansburg, NY, serial # 208.

This fine quarter-century old concert guitar is the work of Thomas Prisloe, a luthier known not only for his own excellent work but as an expert in fine tonewoods and supplier to many other builders. His Santa Fe Spruce Company has harvested and supplied high-grade Rocky Mountain Engelmann Spruce to stringed instrument builders worldwide for decades. In 2001 not long after building this instrument Prisloe established Pavan Guitars, importing concert quality Spanish-made classical guitars built to his specifications from premium materials at more affordable prices than most luthier-built instruments. Prisloe also continued building limited numbers of his own strictly handmade instruments.

Thomas Prisloe built his first classical guitar when he was in his late teens and went on to study in Spain and at the University of New Mexico. A concert-level classical guitarist himself in 1990, Tom set up shop as a full-time classical guitar builder. This Prisloe is labeled as # 208, dated to the year 2000 on the hand-signed label. It has a lovely even-grained spruce top and beautiful Indian Rosewood back and sides, as might be expected from a builder so well versed in wood selection. The trim is fairly deluxe with maple used for the outer binding. Internally the bracing is a modified fan pattern and the heel block is not a traditional Spanish slipper foot. This is a very neatly made, strong and even sounding guitar just ageing in 25+ years along.

Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 14 1/4 in. (36.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

This guitar remains structurally excellent showing only extremely light wear, just handling marks including a few shallow dings and dents. It really appears hardly played over 25+ years. There is one sealed grain split on the top running from bridge to tail between the A and low E strings, closed cleanly but visibly. The guitar shows no other damage and plays well with a nicely even sound; really it feels like the guitar would like to be played more and will no doubt open up further with some actual use. It lives in a nice hard foam case, an excellent value in a genuine hand-made rosewood concert guitar. Overall Excellent - Condition.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0672/8702/3756/files/01_2a1dba5b-e300-4662-a286-7aa6de66a5cc.jpg?v=1781133010
