This is a very fine example of the iconic red sunburst-finish ("Fireglo") Model 335 from Rickenbacker's peak year of 1966. The single most famous 330 series Rickenbacker guitar would of course be John Lennon's 1964 Model 325, used during the Beatles period of worldwide fame in 1964-5.

Following the Beatles' lead, many young musicians in the 1964-68 era worldwide chose the thinline Rickenbacker guitars, making them an enduring 6-string symbol of the period. The models 335 and 345 are firmly associated with the early Who, in particular and the group's first records are an absolute showpiece for the unique Rickenbacker sound. The Model 335 designation refers to the provision of two pickups and vibrato; the more common model 330 has the solid "R" shaped tailpiece, while the 345 carries a third middle pickup. Despite sometimes being dismissed with a "1960's clich' image, the Rickenbacker 335 is a more versatile guitar than many realize, a great sounding and very classy instrument for both retro and modern sounds!

Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). A nice clean guitar overall; all original and complete including oft-missing components like the vibrato arm and bridge cover. There is some light finish wear and some chipping to the back of the neck (in the lower positions) that has been lightly polished out. There is an old repair to the typical 1960's Rick fingerboard separation (caused by inexpert truss rod manipulation) on the bass side of the neck noticeable only on close inspection. The work is completely solid and very neatly done. The vibrato handle (so often removed) is intact, albeit a bit re-bent into shape by previous users. This is an exceptionally fine player with none of the neck-angle issues that often plague these models of mid-1960's Rickenbackers, complete with the original silver Tolex HSC.
