While they did not seriously threaten Martin's dominance in high-end flattops it did result in some of the very finest guitars to come out of Chicago in the 1930's. This Custom Built Style 5 was the top of the line, plain in ornamentation but very well built of excelent materials and retailed at $50, a serious sum at the time. While Regal is mostly remembered as a maker of lower grade instruments, they were perfectly capable of building excellent guitars, as they did for Bacon \u0026amp; Day. This is a fine value in a pre-war Brazillian rosewood guitar with an X braced top, with a sound all its own.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 38 in. (96.5 cm.), 14 1\/8 in. (35.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 1\/4 in. (616 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7\/8 in. (48 mm.). Excellent playing condition overall; the back of the neck has had the finish removed and been rounded down slightly but still has a nice substantial feel. There is general light finish wear, some finish loss around the soundhole and general finger contact area a spot behind the bridge where it looks like perhaps a sticker was removed. No top or back cracks, several old repaired side cracks, no finish overspray.
